AZA
A planet the Thanagarians conquered and committed genoicide on, and to get their voyagers and hyperspace technology. Only succeeded in killing the population.

Well lookie here! It's one of the monetary units of Thanagar. A Gwent is similar to a dollar. No word yet on what the going exchange is between Gwents and Canadian dollars, but I'm working on it.

HIGH MOR
Ruler of Thanagar.

ILLORAL
Conquered world, source of Kragger's drugs.

JUSTICE TOWERS

VEIL OF VALMOORA

THANAGARIAN SLANG

BULWAR
Just as you might think, this term pretty much means only one thing. "Bullshit" is the only literal translation for "bulwhar."

DOWNSIDERS
While the heirarcy of Thanagar sits in their Towers and Floating Cities, the poor and down trodden, and conquored peoples brought back to Thanagar as slaves, live "downside." Residents of the disease infested lower releams are refered to as the "Downsiders."

FLASH
This has one meaning, and one meaning only. "Flash" means "kill." Simple as that. The word is often used in the term "flash zone" or "kill zone."

FLAT
The meaning of this word is short and simple. "Flat" basically means "fact," as used in "that's flat," or "that's a fact." To the point.

HAWKWORLD
Surprised! This is a slang term, simply meaning to describe Thanagar. It has also come to mean "a harsh, violent and seemingly lawless place." In otherwords, there are laws, but only for the poor.

HELL'S DEVILS
See "Seven Hells."

JAM
The word on its own can be translated into something along the lines of "damn," "shit," or "fuck." Essentially, to say "Jam!" is to mean a frustation of sorts. Now it starts to get a little more complicated. Putting "jam" into a sentence, such as "Jam it," can mean something close to "Shut up," or "Fuck it." By the resulting translation, it can have two meanings, and really depends upon how it is spoken.

JAMMIE
Yes, this is similar to the first word, but it means something completely different. To "jammie" means, essentially, to escape, scatter, or run.

JAMMY
Another veriation of the original "jam." This one simply put means "crazy," as in "things have gone jammy," or "crazy."

LIP
To "lip" something is to "swallow" it. As in, "here, lip this pill." The term is used most often with illegal narcotics.

MAGPIE
A loving term more than anything. Katar Hol coined this as his nickname for Shayera Thal, in that she "naggs him too much."

MEAT
As can be assumed, this is an outright insult. Literally speaking, to call someone "meat" is to call that person a "jerk," "asshole," or "motherfucker." Any number of insults in the English language can be substituted for "meat." Suffice it to say, it is a less than flattering term used toward an individual.

PEACOCK
Remember that loving term "Magpie?" Well, this is where it all started from. When coming to earth on a trade delegation, Shayera Thal first saw television and a documentary on birds, particularily the peacock. This became Thal's loving nickname for Katar Hol. "The male peacock has the more glorious plumage, with which it attracts the female, who will actually do most of the work," the documentary stated. To which Thal told Hol, "Hey Katar. They have birds here just like you. Only here they call them peacocks." One can only assume her dig meant that Hol struts his Thanagarian diplomacy, while Thal, his partner, does all the work.

SEVEN DEVILS
See "Seven Hells."

SEVEN HELLS
This is derived from Thanagarian religion. The term is used like we say "hell." It's literal term makes reference to the seven different hells which are opposites of the seven different heavens. "Seven Devils" is often said in its place. Again, literally, it refers to the seven devils which rule the hells, as the Thanagarians believe in seven gods in their religious circles. The term "devils" and "hell's devils" is also used.

SQUEEKERS
"Squeekers" has only one real meaning. The term is used to describe children.

TOPSIDE
Remember we discussed the "Downside" earlier. This is the opposite. It means for those living in their lofty "towers" (which is another word used in slang). In other words, the rich and upper class. "Upside" is also used.

TWERL
Ever call someone a nimrod, jerk, butthead or idiot? I think you get the picture with this word.

KALMORAN
One bit of folklore in Thanagarian culture resides on Thanagar's first great hero, Kalmoran. Many Thanagarians will argue this is just as much fact as fiction. Born in a tiny chain of islands when Thanagar was still under the tyrinical rule of the Polarians, he lived much of his life as a slave. One fateful day, he killed his master and escaped. When he returned, it was at the head of an army, three thousand strong. The army stormed the Polaran garrison, took their ships and struck the Polaran slave worlds. Planet by planet, Kalmoran razed the entire Polaran Homeworld. He had no interest in ruling the Polaran Worlds, but people knew he would do what he could to keep them safe. So he returned to Thanagar and built a beautiful city. And one day, he returned to the islands he was born on with the woman he had made his queen. He laid back in her arms and the cool grass and looked upon all he had built. And then he died.

KAKAHLAN
Chief warrior of the Celae, who used the souls of the dead to build his army, the Faenear.

One of the seven devils.

MAR RHIGAN

SHEKKEL
One of the seven devils.

SHOGGOTH
One of the seven devils. (I'm sure HPL would agree...)

TE SHAMAAR
Te Shamaar is the old religion, based on a band of gods called the Celae, and is not one of the seven official religions; in fact its practice has been largely abandoned. The most recognizable aspects of the Celae are its artifacts. Three objects of great power were a part of the Te Shamaar beliefs. A stone finger ring with an inscription, a bronze talisman designed like the sun and a black cauldron. The talisman was dedicated to Gae Deon, more or less like Apollo. The cauldron supposedly belonged to Mar Rhigan, the goddess of death. The dead, placed in the cauldron, walked again, or so the claim was made. The ring supposedly allowed the bearer to invoke the Celae's chief warrior, Kakahlan, who employed the souls of the dead to build his army, the Faenear. Other names within the Te Shamaar are Ga Vanon (unknown what place he holds) and the chieftans of the Te Shamaar gods, Lord Mawys and Lady Ar Rheon.

VOROX
One of the seven devils.
